  • Green Footprint
With our distillery located in the heart of the orchard, we reduce transportation needs to a minimum. The fruit is processed immediately after harvest, preserving peak freshness and flavour while reducing our carbon footprint.

Producing on-site means more than convenience - it means our brandy retains the essence of the orchard, also avoiding high emissions of harmful gases and additional environmental pollution.
  • Solar-Powered Distilling
From the optimal ripeness of the fruit to the patient transformation of fruit into rakija - we always rely on the power of the sun. Our entire operation runs on renewable energy from a solar plant installed on the estate.

All equipment within the distillery, such as pallet lifters and forklifts, is electric and solar-charged. We are proud to produce pure rakija with clean energy, so each sip of MIKO rakija is a taste of the sun.
  • Recycled Water
Water is a vital element in the distillation process. During the cooling phases, the water within the equipment reaches high temperatures - over 60°C. Thanks to its closed-loop system, hot water used in distilling is repurposed for cleaning the stills and preheating the mash for the next batch.

Once cooled, the water is recycled back into the system. With this method, we reuse up to 95% of the water involved in production - preserving one of nature’s most valuable resources.
  • Composting
After rakija production, large amounts of fruit residue remain. We are actively working on a project to transform this organic waste into natural fertilizer, simultaneously reducing landfill waste and methane emissions.

The compost will be used to fertilize and enrich the orchard soil - completing the cycle of our fruit, as we take from nature, create with nature, and give back to nature.
  • Packaging
We are exploring environmentally friendly options for all our product packaging. In addition to gift boxes & transport packaging made from recycled materials, MIKO rakija caps will also be eco-certified.

Our goal is to launch at least one product in 100% sustainable packaging in the near future.
  • Irrigation
We are aware of the amount of water needed to support 38.5 hectares of orchards. That's why we have piped clean water from a nearby spring, which is stored in 1-million-liter tank on the estate.

Thanks to the efficient drip irrigation system, which allows precise watering close to the tree roots, we’re able to reduce consumption by up to 50% compared to conventional methods - minimizing evaporation and water loss.
  • Solar-Charged Vehicles
Our solar-powered system already drives the distillery and electric equipment used in it. Next, we plan to integrate 100% renewable energy into orchard maintenance as well, by transitioning to electric tractors. This transition will further reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and minimize carbon emissions across the estate.
